SCHEDULE & STANDINGS

 

  • Schedules, standings and player stats may be found on SportNinja tournament app

  • Download the SportNinja App from the Apple or Google Play App store.

  • Install the App.

  • Search for “May Days Cup 2026 ” and it will pop up under the COMPETITION tab

  • Select the tournament.

 

BEFORE GAMES

 

  • At least 30 minutes before EACH game, please make ensure to check in at the tournament desk to confirm your game rosters.

 

TEAM CHANGE ROOMS

  • Please check the TV monitors in the Main Lobby 

  • Each game is assigned 2 dressing rooms (1 and 3 OR 2 and 4).

  • If the monitor does not have dressing room assignments, the HOME team uses the lower-numbered room. The room assignments are on the far right of each time slot and displayed as 1 / 3 or 2 / 4.

  • Teams are to CLEAN-UP the dressing room prior to vacating it after the game

 

FIRST AID

 

  • All teams are to provide their own certified Safety person

  • First Aid attendants will NOT be present during the tournament 

 

 

TOURNAMENTS RULES 2026

  • TEAM REGISTRATION

    • All teams are required to carry $5,000,000 in liability insurance. Teams must submit proof of insurance two (2) days before the tournament

    • Full payment received

    • Failure to comply may result in forfeiture of games or expulsion from the even

  • ​​ROSTERS

    • Rosters must be entered in SportNinja at least two (2) days prior to the tournament

    • Changes may be made up to Thursday, April 17th, at which time rosters will be considered frozen.

    • A maximum of 22 players may be rostered, including APs, on official team roster

    • A maximum of 20 players (18 skaters and 2 goalies) may be rostered for a game

    • Online player waiver forms must be accepted prior to the tournament, otherwise the player will be deemed ineligible to play.

    • Players may only be rostered on ONE TEAM within a division during the tournament. 

    • Players are eligible to ‘play up’ a division (2012 born player may play in 2011 division, etc)

    • Over-age players (players not born in the calendar year of the divisional year they are playing in) must be declared and accepted by the tournament committee prior to being eligible to play. Consideration may be given depending on skill level and what level they played during the winter season. Should false information be given regarding skill level, the player will be removed from the eligible roster.

    • Tournament organizers at any time may request proof of age. Should a player be unable to immediately show proof of age, they will be removed from the roster and will be deemed as an ineligible player until proof of age can be confirmed.  

    • Any completed games that an ineligible player was rostered on, will be forfeited

    • Rostered player(s) must play at least one (1) round-robin game in order to play in elimination games.

    • *Players may be added to a team after the roster deadline on an emergency basis only. This is permitted only if a team has fewer than 10 eligible skaters and one goaltender due to injury or unforeseen circumstances. Emergency additions must be approved and must be eligible to play. Players cannot be added for elimination or playoff games unless they have participated in at least one (1) round-robin game. Goaltenders are the exception to this rule.

    • In the event of a goaltender injury during a game, only a rostered goaltender or a rostered skater on your team may assume the position

    • The use of any unrostered player at any time, in any position, will result in the automatic forfeiture of the game.Tournament organizers reserve the right to deem players ineligible if they are overage or elite-level “difference makers” based on the division. 

    • Rosters must be submitted in advance and may be reviewed at any time. Teams using ineligible players risk forfeits or disqualification.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

 

  • Preliminary games 

    • 1 hour and 15 minutes ice slots:

    • Warm-up – 3 minutes

    • Period times – 15/15/15 minutes or time remaining

    • Time remaining (½ time left in ice slot plus 1 minute)

    • 1-minute break in between periods

    • 30-second timeout for each team

 

  • Playoff Games

    • 1 hour and 30 minutes ice slots (some exceptions may apply):

    • Warm-up – 3 minutes

    • Period times – 15/15/15 minutes or time remaining

    • Time remaining time left in the ice slot, minus 12 minutes, then ½ time left plus 1 minute. The 12 minutes is to allow for overtime and shoot out of necessary

    • 1-minute break in between periods

    • 30-second timeout for each team

  • Head-to-head results 

    • If there are more than 2 teams tied, the “head to head” results only count if ALL tied teams have played each other

    • If all tied teams have not played each, the next tie breakers will be used to determine the placement for ALL tied teams. Ie Most wins, goal differential, etc.  

    • Head-to-head will NOT be used in any scenario in which all tied teams have not played each other

    • Team with the most wins

    • Best overall goal differential rating (cumulative +/- rating after the round robin games)

    • Team with the least penalty minutes

    • Flip of a coin

 

  • Overtime (Play-off Games only)

    • In the event of a tie at the end of regular time during a Play-off Game, there will be a 5-minute sudden victory overtime period.  

    • Each team will play 4 skaters and a goaltender. 

    • Penalties called during overtime will result in playing short-handed but not with less than 3 skaters.  If there is no score during the overtime period the game will go to a shootout.

 

  • Shootout

    • First Round – 3 shooters

    • Coaches will designate three (3) eligible shooters* from each team.  

    • The team that wins the coin toss, will have the choice to shoot first or second. 

    • Teams will alternate shooters until all 3 of their players have shot.  

    • The winner will be determined by which team scores the most goals.  

    • If the score is tied after the initial six (6) shooters – we then move on to the “Second Round – Sudden Death”

    •  players who are serving a penalty in Overtime, and whose time has not elapsed before the end of the overtime period, will not be eligible to be a shooter in the First Round of the Shootout

 

  • Second Round – Sudden Death

    • Coaches will choose one shooter at a time (must not have shot before).  

    • Whichever team went first in the first round, will now go second in the “Second Round – Sudden Death”.  The shootout will be Sudden Death.  If Team A’s shooter scores and Team B’s shooter does not, then Team A wins (and vice-versa).  

    • If both Team’s shooters miss or score, each team will select another new shooter and repeat the process until a winner is determined

    • A player may not be allowed to shoot twice until the entire eligible rostered skater has had a turn.

 

 

PLAYING RULES

 

  • PCAHA (BC Hockey) 2025/26 Rulebooks

    • Edgeworks Hockey tournaments follows the PCAHA (BC Hockey) 2025/26 Rulebook 

    • Rules of hockey will apply

 

  • Body Checking

    • There is NO body contact in the Female and 2014-2016 divisions. 

    • Body checking is only permitted in the male 2009 to 2013 age groups. 

 

  • Penalties

    • Misconduct (10 min) penalties will be served during the tournament games.  Misconducts received in the last 10 minutes of a game will result in a game ejection.

    • Game Misconduct penalty will result in the ejection of the offending player or team official from the game.  Game misconduct penalty received in the last ten (10) minutes of the game will result in an one (1) game suspension.  A second game misconduct, during the tournament, assessed to a player or official will result in suspension for the remainder of the tournament. 

    • All major penalties will be reported to the Tournament Supervisor following the game and subject to all suspensions outlined by Hockey Canada and BC Hockey

 

  • Mercy Rule

    • If there is a five-goal differential, game play will be switched to running time, in the second and third period only. If the differential drops to less than 5 goals, stop time will resume. 

 

GAMES RULES

 

  • Jerseys

    • HOME teams are to wear dark-coloured jerseys

    • In the case of a colour conflict due to both teams only having one set of game jerseys, a mutual arrangement between both teams should be made. Team officials should check at least 45 minutes prior to the game to resolve any issues prior to game time

    • In the case that your team only has one set of jerseys, it is recommended that all your players bring a jersey of the opposite colour

 

  • Handshake and MVP

    • After the game, teams will line up to shake hands 

    • Immediately after the game, teams will line up on their blue line for MVP presentations.

    • Coaches will choose MVP for their own team

  • Game Sheet

    • Game sheets will be entered into Sports Ninja within 30 minutes of game completion

    • Player statistics are recorded and considered final

    • Errors made on assignments of goals, assists and penalties.  

    • Assists will NOT be added if missed

    • All errors are to be submitted via online or paper form by the team manager or the head coach. NO EXCEPTIONS

    • All submissions will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee.

 

  • Forfeit

    • A team that does not present itself for a game will be subject to expulsion from the tournament (at the discretion of the Disciplinary Committee). All forfeited games will be 1-0 score and no refunds will be given

 

  • Zero Tolerance

    • There will be NO tolerance for referee abuse. Offenders will be ejected from the game. 

    • The referees will be instructed to give a single warning before ejecting any coach from the game. 

    • Any coach ejected from more than one game will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament. 

    • Any unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated. 

    • Abusive spectators will be required to leave the premises. We therefore ask that all managers & coaches instruct their parents & players to understand all tournament rules. 

 

  • Delays

    • The tournament reserves the right to adjust times to accommodate for delays in schedules, but this is only enacted by the tournament officials, not the referees.

 

  • Protests and Appeals 

    • The decisions of the on-ice officials are FINAL, there are no appeals of on-ice decisions regarding playing rules.

    • The tournament chair or their appointee will hear all OTHER protests and appeals.  All protests/appeals will be accompanied by a $200.00 appeal fee.  In the event of the protest/appeal being upheld the fee will be refunded.  If the protest/appeal is declined the fee is forfeited.  All protests/appeals will be ruled on prior to playing of the next game for either of the teams playing in the game under protest/appeal.

 

 

  • Team Officials

    • A team official must report to the tournament table/office at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the games or have verified their roster 

    • The home team will be responsible for changing uniforms in case of colour conflict.

    • In the event that the coaches are unable to resolve conflict colours, the visiting team will wear conflict jerseys provided by the tournament.  The visiting team shall return these jerseys at the completion of the game.

 

  • Fair Play

    • Team officials are responsible for ensuring that their players conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all times during the tournament.  Excessive misbehaviour by players may result in suspension from the tournament.

    • At the sole discretion of the Tournament Committee, any action by a player, team official or spectator which is dangerous, disruptive or contrary to fair play may be dealt with by expulsion from further play or banned from the arena facilities.

    • Abuse of game officials on or off the ice will not be tolerated.  Any cases of harassment or abuse directed at an official will result in a review and may result in suspension at the Tournament Supervisor’s discretion.

 

  • Post Game

    • Visiting team shall leave the ice first. Home team will leave once once all the players of the visiting team has cleared the ice and the bench

    • It will the responsibility of the team officials to inform their players
